How does it work?
Teaches are invited to add their profile to the database. In the profiles, teachers specify certain details including the language of tuition and their rates. Students looking for a private lesson teacher in China access the website and browse the private lesson teachers. If there is a private lesson teacher which the student would like to take private lessons with, the student can become a member of the website. One of the benefits of membership, is that once in the member's area, students can view the contact details of the private lesson teachers. Only members can view the private lesson teacher contact details.

Where do I teach, and how do I teach?
Teachers can teach in any place that is mutually agreed by the student and the teacher. Common places to teach private lessons in China are public places such as coffee shops, libraries etc. Different teachers have different teaching methods and teachers can teach in a manner that suits them and benefits the student.

Who can sign up as a teacher?
Ideally native speakers who are serious and confident about their teaching ability. We ask that are teachers expect to able to teach for a minimum of 3 months in the area of China specified in their profile. Our private lesson teachers are required to have a valid visa for their time in China. You don't have to already be a teacher in China to enter your details; we gladly accept profiles from business people, other working professionals, students, housewives etc. We are looking for teachers to teach all across China and we are not only looking for English teachers but also teachers of all languages.

How much can I earn?
Teachers specify their own rates and can take on as many students as they are able to successfully provide quality private language lessons to. Some teachers may wish to only teach private lessons to a single student, whereas other teachers may wish to teach private lessons to several students.

 Is there a contract? Should I wear a suit?
There is no contract with ThePrivateTeacher.com, and teachers are free to wear what they choose when teaching private lessons in China. However, if your lesson is deemed unsatisfactory by the student, the student is free to contact another teacher from our database, so it's in your interest to deliver a private lesson in a professional manner.

Where should I teach the students?
That's for you and your student(s) to decide. However, we recommend you teach in a public place, such as a coffee shop, library, town hall etc.

What happens if I can't make the appointment?
If you can't make an appointment you have made, contact the student and let them know. If you do not and the student complains you will be removed from the website

Can I use this site to make friends?
Not really. This site is for teachers serious about teaching and students serious about learning. We encourage responsbile professional teacher - student relationships. We take no responsibility for the relationships which may develop between teacher and student. If any teacher (or student) is reported to be acting in an unappropriate manner they will be immediately removed from the website.
